Multiplex is a common entomopathogen fungus that can be used to control a variety of insects pests(particularly soil dwelling and pasture pests). In S.America Metarhizium anisopliae has been used against the spittle bug, Mahanarva posticata, leaf miner and leaf ho pers (cercopidae) in sugar cane fields. In South East Asia, the fungus has been used to control the coconut and oil palm thinoers beetle, Oryctes rhinoceros and other coconut pest, Brotispa longissima. It has also been investigated for the control of the termite, Nasutiterense exitous, the sugarcane beetle, Antitragus’s parvulus and the Decan weevil, Curculio caryae.
Metarhizium anisopliae produces a number of secondary metabolites acting as mycotoxined (insecticidal toxins), including DestruxintE, which is considered as new generation insecticides against many aphid species, moth and fly larvae. These toxins are known to insecticides against many and the rapid development of the mycotoxins causes death. The toxins kills the host inciting progressive degeneration of the host tissues due to loss of the structural integrity of the membranes and then dehydration of the by cells fluid loss.
 MODE OF INFECTION
Metarhizium anisopliae spores generally enter insects through spiracles (cuticle), mouth parts and pores in the sense organs. Once inside the insect, the fungus produces a lateral extension of hypahe, which eventually proliferate and consume the internal contents have been consumed. The fungus breaks through the cuticle and speculates, which makes the insects appear “fuzzy”. The Metarhizium anyplace is categorized as a green muscardine fungus due to the green to the color of the sporulating colonies.
